Visitor visa- subclass 600

The Visitor visa is for people wishing to travel to Australia temporarily for the purpose of visiting relatives and friends, sightseeing, holidays, short-term business activities and medical treatment and related purposes.
The Visitor (subclass 600) allows the applicants to stay temporarily in Australia for up to 12 months.

The Visitor (subclass 600) currently has five streams.

However, two common streams are:

  • Tourist stream; and
  • Sponsored family stream.

Sometimes, it can be difficult to determine which stream would be suitable for you. It is best to talk to our expert immigration lawyers to assist you in making the decision.

Visitor visa- Tourist stream

You can apply for a Visitor visa – Tourist stream – application in Australia or outside Australia. This is the only stream that allows you to apply for a Visitor visa in Australia. Each family member or a group member needs to lodge a separate visa application.

You must:

  1. Meet health and character requirements;
  2. Have sufficient money to fund your travel to Australia; and
  3. Intend to visit Australia temporarily and for tourist purposes.

Visitor visa- Sponsored Family stream

You can apply for a Visitor visa – Sponsored Family stream- visa if you are visiting your parent, child, spouse, de facto, brother, sister, uncle, aunt, nephew or niece who is an Australian citizen or an Australian permanent resident.

This stream has a sponsorship requirement. The Department of Home Affairs may request security (an amount of money) at the time of granting this visa. The security is refunded once the applicant leaves Australia.
