Child Visa

Child visas available to biological, step, adopted or orphaned children of an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen.

Visa subclasses

Child visa- A dependent child of an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or Eligible New Zealand citizen can apply this visa. The Child visa has two subclasses: subclass 101 and subclass 101. The child must be in Australia for Child (subclass 802) visa and outside Australia to apply for Child (subclass 101) visa.

Orphan Relative (Permanent) (Subclass 837) visa- This visa allows the orphan child to live in Australia as a permanent resident. The child must be sponsored an Australian relative who is an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or Eligible New Zealand citizen. The Orphan Relative visa has two subclasses: subclass 117 and subclass 837.

Adoption (Subclass 102) visa- This visa allows adopted children of an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or Eligible New Zealand citizen to migrate to Australia. The applicant must be outside Australia at the time of visa application and at the time of decision.

General requirements:

  • be under 18 years, a full-time student aged over 18 and under 25, or over 18 and unable to work due to a disability
  • be single and dependent on the parent
