Refugee (Subclass 200) Visa

The Refugee (subclass 200) visa is for people who are living outside their home country and are subject to prosecution in their home country and who can show a need of resettlement in Australia.

To be eligible for Refugee (subclass 200) visa you must:

  • be living outside your home country
  • be subject to prosecution in your home country for reason of race, religion, nationality, membership of a particular social group or political opinion;
  • be a member of the immediate family of a person who holds a Refugee (subclass 200) visa and the relationship must have been declared to the Department before the grant of that person’s visa.

This visa allows the visa holder to:

  • stay in indefinitely Australia
  • work and study in Australia
  • enrol in Medicare

IN-COUNTRY SPECIAL HUMANITARIAN (Subclass 201) Visa

The In-country Special Humanitarian (subclass 201) visa is for people who are living in their home country and are subject to prosecution in their home country and who can show a need of resettlement in Australia.

To be eligible for In-country Special Humanitarian (subclass 201) visa you must:

  • be living in your home country
  • be subject to prosecution in your home country for reason of race, religion, nationality, membership of a particular social group or political opinion;
  • be a member of the immediate family of a person who holds a Refugee (subclass 200) visa and the relationship must have been declared to the Department before the grant of that person’s visa.

Global Special Humanitarian (subclass 202) visa

The Global Special Humanitarian (subclass 202) visa is for people who are residing outside their home country at the time of visa application and subject to substantial discrimination amounting to gross violation of human rights in their home country.

To be eligible for Global Special Humanitarian (subclass 202) visa you must:

be living outside your home country

subject to substantial discrimination amounting to gross violation of human rights in your home country; or

be proposed by an immediate family member who is a Global Special Humanitarian (subclass 202) visa or Protection (subclass 866) visa holder or Resolution of Status (Class CD) visa; or be proposed by an Approved Proposing Organisation

This visa allows the visa holder to:

  • stay in indefinitely Australia
  • work and study in Australia
  • enrol in Medicare
