Global Talent Program - how can i get this visa?

Australia is known as a country of high achievers who are internationally recognised on the world stage in various genres.

The Global Talent visa program is a part of the Australian Government’s broader strategy to attract highly skilled and talented individuals to Australia. By bringing the best and brightest from around the world to Australia, the program aims to enhance Australia’s global competitiveness and promote innovation and growth in key sectors of the economy.

To be eligible for the visa, individuals must be able to demonstrate that they have an internationally recognised record of exceptional and outstanding achievement in their field. This may include evidence of patents, publications, awards, and media recognition. They must also be able to demonstrate that they have the potential to make significant contributions to their field in Australia.

The program targets individuals who have an exceptional track record of achievement in one of seven target sectors, including:

  • AgTech
  • Defence, Space and Advanced Manufacturing
  • FinTech and financial services
  • Circular Economy
  • Energy and Mining Technology
  • MedTech
  • Cyber Security
  • Quantum Information, Advanced Digital, Data Science, and ICT

The Global Talent visa program has two pathways: the Global Talent pathway and the Distinguished Talent pathway.

The Global Talent pathway is a streamlined pathway for highly skilled individuals who have an internationally recognized record of exceptional and outstanding achievement in one of the seven priority sectors mentioned earlier. To apply for this pathway, individuals must first submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) online and be invited to apply by the Department of Home Affairs.

Once an invitation to apply is received, applicants must submit a formal application, which includes evidence of their achievements and skills, as well as other relevant information, such as proof of language proficiency and character requirements. Applicants are also required to meet health and character requirements.

Do I meet the requirements?

The Global Talent pathway is designed to provide a fast-tracked visa process for highly skilled individuals who can make an immediate contribution to Australia’s economy and society. Successful applicants under this pathway will receive a permanent visa and will have access to a range of government services and benefits.

In addition to meeting sector-specific criteria, the Global Talent Visa requires applicants to meet additional prerequisites related to age, language proficiency, and income.

While there is no age limit, individuals under 18 or over 55 must demonstrate exceptional economic contributions to Australia.

All applicants over 18 must demonstrate functional English proficiency by submitting scores from standardised tests like PTE, IELTS, OET, or TOEFL iBT.

Moreover, applicants must satisfy certain salary requirements and demonstrate their ability to earn a high income. The minimum threshold for high-income earners is 162,000 Australian dollars.

To apply for a global talent visa, you must be nominated by an eligible sponsor, such as an Australian permanent resident, Australian resident, eligible New Zealand citizen, or Australian organization. Once you have a sponsor, they will receive a transaction reference number that you will use to submit your application.

The Distinguished Talent pathway is an alternative pathway for individuals with a history of exceptional and outstanding achievement in a profession, sport, the arts, or academia. Applicants under this pathway do not need to be working in a priority sector but must demonstrate that they have the potential to make a significant contribution to the Australian community.

This pathway is also available for individuals who have been nominated by an Australian organization or individual with a national reputation in the same field as the applicant.

In addition to meeting the achievement requirements, applicants must also demonstrate that they have the potential to make a significant contribution to the Australian community. This pathway is also available for individuals who have been nominated by an Australian organization or individual with a national reputation in the same field as the applicant.

Applicants under the Distinguished Talent pathway must submit a formal application, including evidence of their achievements and skills, as well as other relevant information such as proof of language proficiency and character requirements. They must also meet health and character requirements.

Both pathways provide successful applicants with a pathway to permanent residency in Australia.

Your nominator should have expertise in your field and be able to verify your international reputation, which is a crucial factor in determining whether you should be granted a Global Talent visa.
