I’m an international student. I’ve been in a relationship with an Australian for two and a half years. Last October, I found out I was pregnant, and my partner tried to force me to have an abortion. I refused, and everything changed in our relationship. He changed his behavior towards me, using increasingly harsh words to intimidate and pressure me into having an abortion so we could continue. He even threatened to send a lawyer to force me to do it. As the days went by, the pressure and his changing behavior made me afraid he would escalate, so I decided to leave because I didn’t know what would happen if I stayed any longer. After that, I went to live with some friends, and a few days later, he just texted me to say that I needed to get my things out of his house and that I should understand that having my baby was my responsibility and that I shouldn’t count on him for anything because he didn’t want anything to do with my baby or me. Today I’m looking for a solution because I’m a student and don’t have any rights in Australia, but my baby does. I’d like him to be born with those rights for his future, and because if he’s born under my nationality, the cost would be too high for me, and I’m a single mother with all the responsibilities. I would appreciate your help in understanding what process I could access. Thank you.
