Recent Crime Statistics in Victoria Regarding Family Violence related matters.

The CSA (Crime Statistics Agency) have released the current Victorian crime statistics for the year ending 31 March 2021. Overall, records of criminal offences have decreased in other areas, however family violence related offences had seen an increase of 11.3%. The culprit? Breaches of family violence orders and common assaults related to family violence. These went up by 18.4% and 6.1% respectively.

The statistics say that roughly one in every five offences recorded were related to family violence.

The CSA Chief Statistician notes that:

Victoria has recorded the highest ever number of family incidents and family violence-related criminal offences during this period. The number of family violence-related victim reports has continued to increase, while other types of victim reports decreased over the past 12 months. This increase in family related victimisation has been seen for the last three years, reflecting more than pandemic related impacts.”
